Drunk driving crash leaves one woman hospitalized, injured

On the night before Christmas Eve and approximately 35 miles north of Albany, a tragic accident has sent one woman to the hospital with multiple injuries. The driver that appears to have caused the accident has also been hospitalized, but since being admitted, he has been arrested and charged with reckless driving and driving while intoxicated. Police also expect to file more charges against the 45-year-old man.

The Saratogian reports that the man was in his 2006 Chrysler Sebring and traveling south on Route 50 when he hit a tow truck that was stopped on the side of the road. The tow truck was working with a stranded vehicle when the 45-year-old apparently hit the back of the truck. The collision sent the alleged drunk driver's Sebring into the air before it started to roll.

The Sebring continued to flip end over end before falling on top of a 2009 Chevrolet Impala, trapping the driver inside. When emergency medical personnel responded to the accident, they were forced to use the Jaws of Life to extricate the woman from her Impala.

The woman suffered multiple injuries and was rushed to Saratoga Hospital. Luckily, her injuries were not life-threatening, but it is unclear what her condition is or when she is expected to be discharged from the hospital. It is also unknown if she will ever completely recover from her serious injuries.

Police are continuing to investigate the accident, but it seems that the man's reckless and intoxicated driving was the cause of this crash. By choosing to drive while he was allegedly intoxicated, the man put several people's lives at risk and should be held accountable for the injuries and damage he caused.
