One woman sent to Albany hospital after multi-vehicle accident

Driver inattention is being blamed for an accident earlier this month that left one woman recovering in an Albany hospital. The accident happened in between the Schoharie and Duanesburg exits on Interstate 88 after a patient care service director at Albany Medical Center Hospital first struck a tractor-trailer and then hit a Saturn sedan, injuring the Saturn's driver. While law enforcement continues to look into the accident, the police believe that the director was not paying attention to the road at the time of the car accident.

The 57-year-old director was on her way to work when she struck the rear of a moving semitrailer in an early morning crash. The woman's car became stuck on the back of the truck, but when it broke free, the woman's car slammed into the Saturn driven by a 40-year-old. The 40-year-old's car was thrown into the air and landed, upside-down, on the sloped embankment near the highway.

The crash continues to be investigated by the State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit, the State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit and the New York State Department of Transportation Motor Carrier Safety Inspection Group, but it seems the crash could have been avoided if the nursing director had been paying attention to traffic conditions. Drivers are responsible for taking adequate safety measures to keep themselves and others safe. When drivers fail to focus on the road ahead of them, they can be held liable for the damages and injuries for which they are responsible. Filing a personal injury lawsuit can hold negligent drivers accountable for the accidents they cause.

Luckily, the driver of the sedan is expected to survive. Although she sustained non-life-threatening injuries, she was still taken to the Albany Medical Center Hospital to treat her injuries. The truck driver remained uninjured in the accident.
