Truck accident claims the life of Albany passenger

With the large number of commercial trucks moving through Albany, there is a real risk to Albany drivers that they will be involved in a catastrophic semitrailer accident. Truck accidents can leave motorists seriously injured or dead. The size and weight of a truck can make even the slowest of trucks deadly weapons, traveling down Albany's streets and highways. In addition, the long hours that truckers work and the pressure to work longer and more difficult shifts makes many truckers somewhat dangerous drivers. It is not just other motorists that have to worry about tired truckers and catastrophic crashes; passengers in commercial vehicles also need to be wary of the truckers with which they ride.

After an appliance delivery truck rear-ended the back of an empty tractor-trailer in a recent accident east of Amsterdam, New York, a family is mourning the death of the 49-year-old delivery truck passenger. The 28-year-old Albany delivery truck driver had been traveling east on Interstate 90 near Amsterdam when he ran into a slow-moving tractor-trailer. The 37-year-old trucker told police that he had been moving slowly because of possible mechanical problems, but police also noted the truck driver had been using his hazard lights at the time of the accident.

It is unknown how fast the delivery van was traveling at the time of the accident, but the 28-year-old smashed into the back of the tractor-trailer and his 49-year-old passenger was killed in the accident. While the delivery driver told police that he did not see the truck, it is unlikely he was unable to see a large 18-wheeler driving several feet in front of him.

Whenever a passenger is killed because of his or her driver's inattentive or careless driving, the surviving family members should be able to hold that driver liable for his or her poor driving. While dealing with a fatal motor vehicle accident can be overwhelming, it is important that family members speak with an experienced motor vehicle accident attorney as early as possible in order to preserve their rights and start a wrongful death lawsuit.
