On December 21, 2011, the law firm of Dreyer Boyajian LLP filed a federal lawsuit against Hannaford Bros. Co., which owns and operates Hannaford supermarkets throughout New York, Massachusettes, New Hampshire, Maine and Vermont. The lawsuit was filed on behalf of a victim of Salmonella poisoning who was infected after consuming ground beef purchased at a Hannford in Latham, New York. The Complaint alleges that shortly after consuming the ground beef, the victim was taken to the emergency room, hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and soon thereafter fell into a coma and suffered other serious injuries.

On December 15, 2011, Hannaford issued a recall for any ground beef sold at its stores with a "sell-by" date of December 17, 2011, or earlier. According to the Center for Disease Control ("CDC"), at least 16 people have reported Salmonella related illness from beef purchased at Hannaford stores between October 12 and November 20, 2011. The victims of the outbreak include persons from Maine, New York, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Kentucky, and Hawaii.

The CDC warns that persons infected with Salmonella may develop diarrhea, fever, abdominal cramps, and that infection may necessitate hospitalization and even cause death if not properly and timely treated, especially in the case of infants, elderly persons, and others with weak or impaired immune systems.

If you or a loved one has been affected by salmonella or another food borne illness, it is critical for you to promptly contact an experienced attorney. Call the law firm of Dreyer Boyajian LLP at (518) 348-4133 for a free confidential case review.
