New York teenager killed while riding in friend's car

The residents of Sparkill, New York, are remembering a 17-year-old who was tragically killed as she returned home from a visit to Albany. According to New York state police, the teenager had been riding in the back seat of a friend's car when the driver lost control of the vehicle and drove off the road. While the driver and the front-seat passenger were able to walk away with minor injuries, the 17-year-olddied at the scene of the car accident.

When an accident like this happens, many surviving family members are left wondering what went wrong and who is to blame for such a heart-wrenching accident. Passengers deserve the same protection as motorists in other cars or pedestrians on the sidewalks; drivers that fail to take their passengers' safety and well-being into mind can easily be held liable for anything that results from their carelessness. Filing a wrongful death lawsuit is the only way the family can get the compensation they deserve after such horrific accident.

State police believe the 18-year-old driver was speeding along a straight portion of the New York State Thruway near Plattekill as the three high-school friends drove south from Albany. According to The Journal News, the roads may have been slippery, but it does not appear that the weather conditions were enough to slow the driver down.

As the young man initially lost control of his car, he drove off the road and down an embankment. Unfortunately, the car was turned around and the back of the vehicle crashed into a tree. The 2009 Subaru travelled approximately 20 yards before it eventually was stopped by the tree.
