Whistleblower Says Takeda Concealed Bladder Cancer Risks of Actos

In an Actos whistleblower lawsuit unsealed last month, which was filed in the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts, a former medical reviewer for Takeda Pharmaceuticals, the manufacturer of Actos, a drug used to treat diabetes. The lawsuit was brought under the federal False Claims Act, which provides a vehicle for whistleblowers to bring claims on behalf of the government and in return receive up to 30 percent of any recovery.

According to an article published in Bloomberg, the medical reviewer who filed the whistleblower action alleges that she personally reviewed at least 10 bladder cancer cases reported by Yale University involving Actos patients who were participating in a study at that institution. The medical reviewer further asserts in the lawsuit that she attempted to report the bladder cancer cases to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), but was told to change her conclusions by her superiors.

Actos has been reportedly associated with increased risk of bladder cancer. Dreyer Boyajian LLP is currently representing persons injured by taking Actos.
