Parents sue dog owners for $30 million after schoolyard dog attack

Earlier this week we talked about a young boy that survived a horrible dog bite and has made it his mission to change New York's "one bite rule." Now, another dog attack story is coming out of Port Washington, New York, on Long Island. A 6-year-old boy was playing on the school playground when a dog attacked him and chewed off part of his ear.

Unfortunately, doctors were unable to reattach the severed earlobe. The parents are trying to hold the dog's owners responsible for the pain and suffering and disfigurement that their son now has. They have worked with their attorney to file a lawsuit against the owners for $30 million. It is unknown if they are also suing the school at which the boy was bit, but there are numerous signs ups that say dogs are not permitted on school grounds.

The dog attack happened when the lab mix got away from its owners. The boy had started to approach the loose dog, as if to pet it, when it bit him. The 6-year-old's father said that he saw his son on the ground as his wife started to scream about the boy's ear. When they found his earlobe, they put it on ice and brought him to the hospital. It was too late, however, to put his earlobe back on.

The dog that allegedly bit their child is extremely frightening and has been known to intimidate other children. The boy's attorney has also said that the owners were careless and reckless. It is unknown if the dog was on or off its leash at the time of the accident.
