22-year-old New York woman injured by apparent drunk driver

There is a reason why drunken driving is illegal in New York: drunken driving can cause some of the worst and most tragic of accidents. Oftentimes, the accident never would have happened, but for the driver of one of the cars being drunk. Driving under the influence of alcohol seriously impairs an individual's ability to safely and responsibly handle a motor vehicle, including slowing reaction times, clouding judgment and distracting the driver from the road. Unfortunately, drunken driving accidents still happen, and when they do, injured victims are likely to file personal injury lawsuits against the driver that sent them to the hospital.

In this story, a serious accident in a small town outside of Poughkeepsie was apparently caused by a drunken driver. The 23 year old had been driving north just before 6:00 a.m. when he drifted into the southbound lane. Sadly, before he was able to correct himself and move back into his own lane, he smashed into a 22-year-old woman's vehicle. The head-on collision left the woman injured and in need of major medical attention.

The woman was flown to Albany Medical Center. It is unknown what specific injuries she sustained or the seriousness of her condition, but WYNT News Channel 13 reports that she is in stable condition. It would appear, however, that the hospitals in nearby towns were unable to deal with the extent of her injuries. It is also unknown how long it will be before the woman has recovered or if she will ever fully recover from this head-on collision.

As she moves forward, the 22 year old will likely need money during her recovery process. Until she can work again, she will likely have little money coming in. In addition, her medical bills, therapies and other care will cost a great deal, which can quickly deplete any money she has saved. She could, however, file a personal injury lawsuit against the driver, seeking compensation for her injuries and covering her missing wages until she can return to work.
