The parents of a Long Island girl can finally rest assured that their daughter will be able to receive the care and treatment that she needs following an award of $130 million in recent medical malpractice lawsuit. Ten years ago, the parents had gone to the hospital, expecting the birth of their daughter to be one of the happiest days of their lives, but it turned out to be a much different experience.
Instead of welcoming a happy and health girl into the world, the doctor who delivered the child "departed from accepted obstetrical practice," says the jury. This departure caused a lack of oxygen to the child's brain, leaving her with severe cerebral palsy. It has been 10 years and the parents
There are certain mistakes that are so grave and so serious that it is no wonder that they garner such large jury awards. Unfortunately, for most cases of medical malpractice, especially in regards to birth, the smallest error could cause a very serious medical condition. And sometimes the injured patient will be left to cope with this condition for life.
More often than not, medical malpractice also is a large financial burden for families.
