Traumatic Brain Injury Update:
Today, doctors depend on reliable medical tests to diagnose a wide range of physical ailments, from high blood pressure to a broken arm. However, as NPR reports in a recent story, scientists on the cutting edge of medical research have now begun developing tests that will allow doctors to objectively diagnose disorders of the mind. These new techniques involve identifying and tracking "bio-markers," or physical indications of what is occurring inside the body.
While still in their early stages, researchers are hopeful that their work will yield new, more reliable methods of diagnosing such mental and cognitive disorders as TBI, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Alzheimer's Disease.
