Parents can help prevent teenage car accidents in Albany
Many parents in Albany recognize that their teenagers are connected to their phones. They bring them everywhere and they always seem to be on them, even when they should be paying attention to something else. Sadly, many of them also pay more attention to their phones than to the road while they are driving, despite the fact that many of them recognize that driving and texting is dangerous and illegal in New York. Fortunately, there are some new pieces of technology that parents can use to prevent this kind of distracted driving.
The combination of distracted driving and inexperience makes teenagers especially dangerous to everyone on the road. The fact that someone may have gotten a driver's license without ever having driven at night or in bad weather is risky enough as it is, but throw in texting or surfing the Internet and young drivers could seriously injure or kill any other motorist on the road.
Several new smartphone applications, however, can prevent teens from using their phones while in the car. Whether it disables the ability to text, to use the Internet or to make phone calls, these apps can get teenagers focused on driving their cars safely and carefully. Many of the apps work by disabling phones when a vehicle is traveling over a certain speed. Another piece of technology is not an app, but a form of ignition interlock which requires a phone to be placed in a port before the car will start.
There are other methods of keeping teenage drivers safe, and one of them may be the fear that if they cause an accident, they will be held responsible for it. Yes, car accidents can come with criminal charges or traffic violations, but many teenagers are likely afraid that if they hurt someone in a car accident, that they will be paying that individual's medical bills and other damages for a long time.
