Bronx woman charged with manslaughter in nursing home death

When authorities first looked into the death of a resident at the Tarrytown Hall Care Center, they charged a Bronx nurse's aide with endangering a vulnerable elderly person. After investigating further, they decided to upgrade the charges to criminally negligent homicide and manslaughter. The son of the 86-year-old woman who died in the nursing home has said that it is clear that something happened and that the nursing home staff tried to cover it up.

Unfortunately for this family, it appears the woman experienced elder abuse at the nursing home, something that can weigh heavily on the minds of loved ones. It can be hard to think of family members dealing with abusive or even negligent living conditions, especially in a place that is supposed to provide respite and care. This is why many families choose to file nursing home abuse lawsuits against facilities; it is their way of showing the nursing home that it cannot get away with bad treatment.

The incident that led to this woman's death were quite shocking, especially because the nurse's aide seemed more concerned about not getting caught then about the seriously injured resident. In direct violation of the nursing home's procedures, the nurse's aide lifted the woman from her bed and tried to put her in her wheelchair alone. The rules clearly state that two staff members must use a mechanical lift to move patients, but the aide appears to have ignored the rules and dropped the resident.

Instead of attending to the injured woman, the aide tried to get another aide to lie and say they had been working together. It was only after talking to the aide that she sought medical attention for the resident.
