CDC Reports on Multistate Salmonella Outbreak

The Center for Disease Control (CDC) is reporting that a total of 93 persons have been infected by the outbreak of a Salmonella Bareilly strand. Victims have been identified in several states including New York, Massachusetts, and New Jersey. It is reported that ten persons have thus far been hospitalized as a consequence of the infection.

Although the CDC's report, which is available at this link, states that there has not been a conclusively identified food source, an MSNBC report stated that the outbreak may be linked to sushi. To read the MSNBC article, click here.

Common symptoms of salmonellosis include diarrhea, abdominal cramps, aching, fever, chills, headache, dehydration, nausea, and vomiting. These symptoms usually manifest within a few days after ingestion.
