Product Liability Update: Feds Probe Wright on Hip Implants

Product Liability Update re Metal on Metal Hips:

According to a report issued in Massdevice.com, the federal government is seeking Wright Medical's records on its Profemur line of metal-on-metal hip implants. According to the report, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of Tennessee has subpoenaed records dating back to January 1, 2000 on the Profemur line of hip implants and components. The report was based on a Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filing in which the company recognized the existence of the probe. Click here to read Wright's statement in the SEC filing.

Studies have shown that over time, the ball and socket components in metal on metal hips can wear down, generating metal debris fragments. These fragments can cause fluids to build up in the joint and surrounding muscles, and may cause pain and swelling or damage to the muscles, bones and nerves around the hip.
