Rural motorcycle accident caused by driver making left turn
It is something that the people of Troy hear all too often: a motorcyclist has died because of a driver's negligence. Sadly, many drivers don't pay enough attention to other cars, much less motorcycles on the road. Whether it is sheer negligence or something closer to recklessness, New York drivers need to learn to respect motorcyclists.
In this recent accident, a driver was killed when a woman made a left turn without yielding to a motorcyclist and his right of way. Instead of letting the biker and his passenger through the intersection, the woman started to turn, putting her car directly into the path of the oncoming bike and causing the motorcycle accident.
Both the motorcyclist and his passenger were killed when they smashed into the car. It is unknown if they were thrown from their bike or if the impact alone was sufficient to cause the fatal injuries. It is also unclear if they died at the scene or if they were taken to a local hospital before being declared dead.
A motorcyclist deserves the same respect as every other motorist on the road. He or she should not have to worry that his or her life will be at risk every single time he or she goes out for a ride. If, unfortunately, a biker is involved in a motorcycle accident with a negligent driver, he or she can work with a motor vehicle accident attorney to file a personal injury claim against the driver. If he or she dies, his or her surviving family members may be able to sue the driver for wrongful death.
