Does the Child Victims Act Apply in Boy Scouts Sexual Abuse and Assault Litigation?

Signed into law in 2019, the New York State Child Victims Act gives survivors of childhood sexual assault and abuse additional time to bring criminal charges and initiate civil actions against their abusers, as well as institutions that ignored or covered up the abuse. This “look back” period expires on August 14, 2021.

The bankruptcy proceedings supersede individual claims filed against the Boy Scouts of America. However, survivors may have until August 2021 to file personal injury lawsuits against other liable parties, such as campgrounds where abuse took place, regional Boy Scouts councils, and more.
